Why Buy A Gourmet Coffee Maker?

The world of gourmet coffee has taken off into a whole new world as of the last 20 years or so. These days it's just about impossible for a town not to have at least one or two different coffee shops. However, with all of the popularity of coffee shops, there is still a large trend of individuals becoming their very own gourmet coffee shop. For a few hundred dollars or so you can have your very own gourmet coffee maker. This is not only good for the money you would save from going out to the coffee shop, but this also adds to the obsession with gourmet coffee and solidifies the reasons why you love coffee in the first place.

Starting with the coffee, it's important to note that all coffee blends are made from one of two different beans out there. There are the Robusta beans and Arabica beans. Robusta beans are easier to grow, and contain a higher caffeine percentage. However, Arabica account for more than 70% of traded coffee from all over the world. There is a very wide taste range and is a much smoother and fuller smelling/ tasting bean. It is important to note that all gourmet coffee is made from Arabica beans.

Once you have your beans picked out you can proceed to purchase a coffee maker. All coffee pots are either made from plastic or stainless steel. The lower grade pots are usually made from plastic, while the higher range models from stainless steel. It is important to note that many coffee lovers can taste a great difference in the flavor of coffee brewed in a plastic maker. Take this into consideration before making a purchase. Another thing to take into account is how many options you would like on your maker. You can get a gourmet coffee maker with all the bells and whistles or with very little. Some of these extra features include a built in grinder, timer for brewing later, auto turn off features, and even a setting that can warn you when your coffee maker needs to be cleaned.   Once you get into the world of making your own gourmet coffee it's likely that you will never just settle for any old cup of Joe again.

Has anyone tried on of the Keurig coffee machines that use the little cups of pre-measured coffee? I am thinking about getting one for my Mom but I wasn't sure if they were as good as I have heard.
